~A BLIZZARD coming to IOWA~

~A BLIZZARD coming to Cedar Rapids????~
*MY (version) of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE*

Winter Weather Alert
By Joe Winters
A Blizzard Warning, Winter Storm Warning, Snow and Blowing Snow Advisory, and Wind Chill Advisory are all in effect through the day today for parts of eastern Iowa. Generally, 1-4" of new snow is expected today combined with very strong northwest winds of 25-40 MPH.
The warnings issued for today are NOT for high snow amounts, they have been issued for the strong winds. The winds will blow new snow around and may create whiteout conditions, especially in rural areas. http://www.kcrg.com/weather
Okay, we went from 58 degrees yesterday....YES 58 down to -25 tonight....that my friend is a HUGE WEATHER CHANGE!!!
So, here's what I have already done this morning on
MY (version) of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE

OOOO I WANTED to sleep in but, since this storm is coming....I have a feeling Maddi (Half-pint) and I will be going to bed early...WE ALWAYS LOSE POWER!!! They have called off school and I was SMART and didn't even send her this morning. I thought, an hour on the bus to get to school, then an hour on the bus to get home....and I KNOW they will do an early dismissal and TADA....THEY DID JUST THAT!!!LOL...

So here I am this morning, feeling like LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE....just call me Caroline, gathering up wood from the yard and Bob's (PA's, or shall we say Charles) shop, charging batteries and flashlights, hunting for candles, and the radio. I have everything ready. Including the plug in land line that works when we lose electricity so I can call out if I have too.
Also, both Maddi (Half-pint) and I have showered/bathed and I had to leave her water in the tub because the well works on electricity so we won't have any water to flush the toilet....ROFLOL
Then, I have a big jug of water for drinking, a big pitcher of kool aid made for Maddi (Half-pint) and I even made Cheesy Chicken with Rice for us to eat during the day, thank you ANNA for that recipe. Steele, our Dog, (or Jack) has been fed and watered and is hunkered down in Bob's (PA'S) shop.
WHEW!!!! All that before 10:00am.....Now it's time to sit down and chill out and wait for the storm and the electricity to go out....LOL

If you don't hear from me for awhile, you will know we have no power. Last time we had NO POWER for THREE DAYS!!! And it SUCKED!!!

I'm still coughing like crazy but my head is clearing and my sweet Kristi (MARY) has Influenza A and possibly pneumonia, however she is at her Dad's in town and staying there.

All my love and hugs, Amy (but today, call my Caroline Ingalls....LOL)

Amy, that sounds like hurricane season for us---getting things ready, only thing is, it is very hot when they happen and I've been known to sleep with a wet sheet on top of me--especially after Lili---I had just come home from the hospital 2 days before she hit us. I should have stayed like they wanted, but I hate hospitals. Stay warm and maybe you and Maddi can play games by candlelight. Hope it's not too bad. Love Ya, Pat

I just posted about the storm too =) But even though the skies are gray, it's fairly warm and I hear birds chirping! Where is this blizzard? Must still be in Iowa working it's way toward us =) I hope we do loose power. I love telling stories with the kids by candlelight! Keep warm. Blessings.. Polly

I'm imagining you all hunkered down playing Little House on the Prairie - such a great series - but hopefully not too cold, especially as you've been sick!

Stay safe during the storm - be careful burning candles!!!
Hugs - Mary.

P.S. 59 here today but will get colder by the weekend - probably blowing in from your area.

Warm hugs.

I'm wondering if your Cheese Chicken Rice is the same as the one we make -- it's one of our favorites! Yummy!!!!!!

Amy, I cannot even imagine it that cold I do want you to stay indoors please!!! it worried me the more I read into your post about the cold and with family ill at this time.

I sit here today in my shorts and light top, no shoes waiting for it to hit over 105deg's then followed by a summer rain storm. We don't often get it like that but this year it has been very tropical.

blessings from Australia.

Amy, It makes me cold just thinking about you! Glad you have every thing gathered up and ready...
Our electricity went out for about 12 hrs last month,(some trees fell on the lines during a storm )Brandy and I slept in (blankets) and played board games by an oil lamp with lots of socks and a jacket.
Glad you have a fire place. Try to stay warm . Hugs Mary :)

Caroline,

I hope you, Charles, and Half-Pint are weathering the storm and that it isn't nearly as bad as was expected.

Keep a light burning in the window.

Stay warm!!! And cozy and dry!!! Our New England weather does those crazy temp drops all the time... it went from 58 down to 27 in about 12 hours here yesterday! lol

Amy,

Be sure and your little one stays safe and warm. We have a winter storm warning out tonight here in Ontario. The roads will be chaos for the morning commute. I'm glad I'm not included in it.

Yesterday we had hurricane force winds in some of the province and it was frigid temps along with them. Today was a beautiful winter day and tomorrow we are getting the storm that's moving across the US.

Thanks for all your generosity to Deena. I pray for her constantly and thanks also for recruiting Mary's Angels.

Blessings,
Mary

Hi Amy,

I am new to blog land and have been so busy checking out all the fun blogs. I can't even remember how I found yours but it is definitely all a circle. What caught my attention was that I used to live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I now live in Ohio. I just wanted to introduce myself and if you have time, please check out my new blog. This is a whole new world for me. Thanks Amy and God Bless!
