~REMODELED our HOME~ Want a NEW LIVING/DINING ROOM~

LOTS OF PICTURES OF WHAT OUR HOUSE LOOKED LIKE WHEN WE MOVED IN, THEN, SIX WEEKS, yep, 6 Weeks of blood, sweat and tears. We were done with EVERYTHING......all new electrical, plumbing, everything down to the studs and sub flooring.
The girls wanted us to keep the NAPOLEON DYNAMITE Kitchen but there was NO WAY that was going to happen. It was completely gutted.

WE DID ALL the work ourselves. Including laying on the floors too....IT WAS HARD BACK BREAKING WORK but it's DONE and ended up FABULOUS!!! (but now...I want to paint the 1950's Mahogany Wood Walls , IT'S NOT PANELING, can you believe it??? and make it COTTAGE.....and get rid of the CAMP/LODGE LOOK!!! I will post tomorrow what I want to do....and all because of a sofa....LOL, no not really....I wanted to do it when we moved in but was veto-ed over the fact of leaving the charm of the house intact. Have fun looking.....Amy

(PS....sorry about the above pictures, I don't know how to scan my pictures yet)

LOVE THOSE WHITE OAK FLOORS that Bob and I installed ourselves. THAT WAS NOT FUN......3 days straight we worked on it but got it done and it was so worth it!!!

STAY TUNED.......

Your house is huge! I love that big window too! I painted all the paneling in my old house and I really liked it. What does the hubby say?

Oh Amy I can't wait to see the makeover. It will look fabulous once it is lightened up - nice and pretty like you want.

Yes, what a great room! BIG! Well, looks big in the photos. I say paint the walls, paint the walls! You'll be happier. Not that your camp/lake/lodge look isn't nice, too. But it it is not what you want...

Like the Nike ad says "Just Do It."

:0)

I have some before and after's of my paint over. I haven't regretted a thing.

I loved your new couch. Mahogany walls~wow! That has to be a rarity as scarce as mahogany is anymore. Can't wait to see what you have planned. Bob's floor is amazing. We tiled our living area a few years ago--nearly killed us but so worth it.

Amy can't wait to see what you do. I painted our dark paneling and still have 2 rooms to go. It's wainscoating, so not to much trouble. Oh the food looks so good, I could get a fork out and try and eat it through the monitor-lol.
Oh I love the pink sofa. I am hoping to get a pink room someday, but most of my things are Neo Classic and a bit of country still hanging around. Love Ya, Pat

The wood is beautiful, but I'm with you - lightening it up would feel really nice. I love the ceiling detail, the curved edge, and looks like swirls in the plaster - our old home had that, and people always commented on how unusual it was. Good Luck!! Pam

Amy, I suppose the paneling could be removed and sold if you wanted although it would be a lot more work. However, painting it isn't the end of the world as it can always be stripped and brought back to the original finish...holy buckets would that be a job! Just paint it...you'll love it and then thank the good Lord you won't be the one stripping it someday! =)
Just make sure you are resting..I know you! Rest girl!

Amy, I say go for the paint can - a lot of cans as it looks like a huge room! Hope you have help though, that's a lot of rolling - wish I could come over and help.

I have 'Superman Bruce' working wonders on my walls - started today and I know I'm going to love the change back to light, neutral colors.

The California food looked yummy - we can buy Black Forest Ham (Dietz & Watson Brand which is good I believe - Bob likes it but I'm vegetarian so don't eat it) at local deli depts. in the supermarket - perhaps you can ask for it there.

Stay warm - so glad you are perky again and raring to go with big changes around the house. Hope the family are well now.

Your floors are gorgeous! I lost track of you for awhile (the blog that I used to follow your link stopped linking to anybody) and now that I have found you I wish that I had done it sooner. I totally would have met you in Temecula to say hi. It is in my neck of the woods. I am glad that you enjoyed you visit out here. By the way, I am not sure if I have ever commented on here before but I am a long time lurker! Take care and I can't wait to see more remodel pics!

I just looked at all the pictures of the food you posted and I am, now, so hungry. I'm about a FOUR hour drive from that place, but I'm almost willing to go for the food. LOL

I don't blame you for wanting to paint the wood white. But, most men won't go for it. They think it's a crime to paint wood and they like the masculinity of it.

My friend had a beautiful home with wood planking. She wanted to paint all the walls white, but her husband said it would devalue their house. I suggested that she try doing one room in a white wash, so that the wood grain showed through. It took some work on her part, because she had to work with the paint store to get the white right. The wood soaked up the paint and kept looking yellow.

Long story short - it looked beautiful and her husband was O.K. with it because you could still see the grain of the wood, but it was still white enough that it brightened the WHOLE house. They ended up doing the whole house and everyone that visited loved the look. Her colors were yellow and blue and she had a French Country look. When they got ready to sell the house, it sold the first day it was listed.

I'm so happy that you're feeling well enough to be interested in decorating.

Good Luck!

hi amy,
Yes its very very big, and I am sure you will make into the vision you have for it. My house isnt particulary big but it is painted in lots of antique white/ chalk white colours to make it look bigger & brighter and it does the trick. Your floors are lovely too by the way.
Glad you are keeping good and pass me some of that yummy food ! xxx Dominique
